AN INMATE WHO WALKED OFF HIS WORK RELEASE DETAIL EARLY LAST WEEK AND THEN STOLE A VEHICLE HAS BEEN CAPTURED BY AUTHORITIES.  MEMBERS OF THE LEWIS COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, IN CONJUNCTION WITH LAWRENCE COUNTY DEPUTIES, APPREHENDED LUKE DOWDY AROUND NOON ON SATURDAY.  DOWDY HAD BEEN ON THE RUN FROM OFFICERS SINCE TUESDAY.  A VEHICLE HE TOOK WAS RECOVERED LATE IN THE WEEK HOWEVER IT WAS THOUGHT THE INMATE WAS ARMED WITH A GUN THAT WAS INSIDE THE CAR.  AUTHORITIES WERE NOTIFIED OF DOWDY'S WHEREABOUTS LATE SATURDAY MORNING WHEN HE WAS DISCOVERED ON PROPERTY OWNED BY MEMBERS OF THE FARM COMMUNITY.  FARM RESIDENTS ATTEMPTED TO STOP DOWDY HOWEVER HE FLED IN ANOTHER STOLEN VEHICLE BEFORE HE WAS ULTIMATELY STOPPED AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY LAW ENFORCEMENT. DOWDY WAS ORIGINALLY SERVING A SENTENCE RELATED TO DRUG CHARGES HOWEVER ADDITIONAL CHARGES IN THE MATTER ARE EXPECTED.
