Catherine Porter Smith Cardin (Kate) died at her home November 29th, 2023. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended University of Alabama, and was devoted to Girl Scouts, from Brownies through high school when all received the Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can receive.
The family will receive visitors at their home to celebrate Kate’s life, Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 from Noon until 5pm.
Survivors include her husband, James Thomas Cardin (Jim), daughters, Kate-Downing Cardin of Nashville and Dr. Sara-Elizabeth Cardin of Memphis, two brothers, Mark Smith of Florence and Dr. Peter Smith and wife Christy of Nashville, mother-in-law, Sue Cardin, sister-in-law Karen Cardin Spivey and husband Steve, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Giles County Library, Giles Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
