Maury County Public Schools’ chief financial officer is leaving.

Karen Gagliano handed in her resignation last week, said Maury County Schools Superintendent Chris Marczak. She will take on a new position as the budget director of Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia.

Reaching final approval in May, the Maury County Financial Management System of 2018, places ultimate control of the county’s finances under a single governing body, consolidating all of the county funds into a smaller number of larger accounts. That includes the school district’s finances and the trustee’s office.

Maury County Commissioners passed the resolution with the goal to handle the taxpayer’s dollar in a more effective fashion.

The conjoined system will be managed by a financial committee consisting of the county mayor, county trustee, the school board chair and four commissioners.
